I realize Dan Beebe said he's not interested in expanding the league right now, but he also said that if a team from outside of the Big 12's 5-state region could bring more to the table than the Big 12 would have to serve them, it would considered for membership. BYU is a high-ranking research university, it fields competitive teams, and it has a large fan-base (damn near everybody in the LDS community, if we're honest with ourselves). Notre Dame is also a very highly-ranked university with one of the most, if not THE most, profitable football franchises in the nation. Both are independent (that is, BYU will be next season).
